How did you discover writing as a possible career?

I realized it's so satisfying just to watch a character come alive and that I can do that over and over.

How did you choose your pen name?

My name, lol.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories?

Everywhere but especially in the media I consume.

What is the weirdest fact you've found when researching for a book?

Sharks have 2 dongs.

What trope is your favorite to write?

Found Family

What is your favorite thing about being an author?

Making friends with other folks in the community.

What is your writing process?

Wait 'till everyone else is asleep then write/edit till I fall asleep. Rinse and repeat.

What time of day are you most creative?

Night.

What is your ideal writing environment?

Laying down on the couch.

As an author, what challenges do you face?

Finding my audience and reach.

What is your least favorite part of being an author?

Promotion. I like meeting people, in just bad at the grind.

If there was one thing you could change about the writing/publishing industry, what would it be?

The gatekeeping. It's very clear that excellent stories (I'm not even talking about mine) go unpublished or get limited reach because the trad pub community is guarded by agents with particular tastes or that want you to pay them for feedback.

What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Learn to write, then learn to keep writing, and then learn to write some more.

What is something you’d like to write, but haven’t yet?

A Persian Gundam Space Opera.

Which parts of yourself are reflected in your characters?

My immigrant journey and my constant self-doubt.

Which of your characters have special meaning to you?

Lyka and Cy from 13 moons, obviously.

How do you come up with character names?

What name holds the most significance as either describing the character or the world.

What kind of readers enjoy your books?

My ideal readers are people who enjoy character driven stories where unconventional figures find their place in a messy world.

What is something you love to hear from your readers?

That the book connected with a particular personal experience of theirs.
